I am reading a book that studying multiculturalism to support my essay. Many of the study case are from America. pretty surprise to see some big irony here. You know, the writers keep using the words “black” to refer African-American. Every time I read that word, I want to cringe.
Well, the problem is, that term is not neutral.
Imagine a world if racial identity was defined by eye color or hair color. Even an Asian could say they are same race with black-haired “white” people. Meanwhile, a brown-eyed people in Europe could say they are the same race with Africans who have brown-eyed colors too.
Too bad, racial identity is constructed by skin color. The worst is, it seems that nobody wants to deconstruct this.
