We are born among races, let’s be kind for each other

Let’s talk about horrific racism-based tragedy in Indonesia, back May 1998. In multicultural country like Indonesia, it is not fair to decide who real Indonesians are merely based on races.

The native Indonesians built their country and nation with the help and struggle of Chinese, Arabians, Indians, Japanese, and Westerners too. And…there were also native Indonesians who don’t even care a thing about Indonesia.

I still recall during those times, my Chinese-looking friends and I in senior high school often felt anxious walking on the street when the riots happened. I was 17, and a little boy in a small alley of a street riding bicycle, he and his friends shouted at them, “There are Chinese here!”

Funny to notice that being Chinese-look was enough to spark the hate. I know the reason. But… let that stupidity be a past.
